I like the blog setup. I do wish the blog had a "contact us" link so I could e mail instead of calling about my subscription problem. If there is one, I don't see it.

Thanks, Elizabeth G

THIS IS TO THE MAYOR ABOUT THE STRAWBERY FESTIVAL. HE SAYS THE LOCAL PEOPLE CAN'T ROPE OFF IN FRONT OF THEIR HOMES. WELL SHOULD OUR FAMILY AND LOCAL PEOPLE PARK AT. SHOULD THEY PARK AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND WALK TO TOWN.THESE PEOPLE ARE THE ONES WOKING THE BOOTHS FOR THIS FESTIVAL. WHICH COULD NOT BE WITH OUT THEM. IF THE CITY OWNS THIS LAND WHY IS IT THAT I HAVE TO CUT THE GRASS, PICK UP TRASH,CLEAN THE DITCH OF TRASH.EVERYONE CAN GO PARK IN THE MAYOR YARD,HE CAN MAKE A FEW DOLLARS FOR GROCERIES. WHO GOING TO STOP PEOPLE FROM GOING TO THE BATHROOM IN PEOPLES YARDS OR THROWING TRASH THERE. THE CITY DOES NOT CLEAN THIS UP WE DO. THE CITY SAYS IT MAKES NO MONEY FROM THE FESTIVAL, BUT SALES TAXES ARE PAID. I KNOW FROM THE RIDES IT IS ALOT. HE SAYS IT COST THE CITY MONEY. ONE THING IS WHY WHEN IT GET CLOSE TO THE FESTIVAL THE WORKERS START CLEANING EVERYWHERE. THIS SHOULD LOOK LIKE ALL THE TIME NOT JUST NOW.THEN IT WOULD NOT COST ANYTHING BECAUSE IT WILL BE KEEP UP ALL THE TIME. THE STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL PAYS FOR THE TRASH PICK UP, THE POLICE OFFICER OVER TIME,THE PORT POTTYS,THE ELECTRICITY. WHAT DOES THE CITY PAY FOR. LET US SEE THE PAPER WORK THE TRUE PAPER WORK NOT THE ONE YOU MAKE UP. THERE IS NO REASON WE CAN'T BLOCK OFF IN FRONT OF HOME FOR OUR LOCAL TO PARK. OTHER TOWN DO IT. AND ALSO WHY DO WE NOT HAVE A JAIL HERE IN PONCHATOUL. BEING OUR MAYOR SAID THERE WILL NEVER BE ONE . THERE IS NO PLACE TO PUT PRISONER FOR THE LACK OF ROOM. YOU CAN TAKE THE OLD FIRE STATION THAT IS NOT BEIND USED AND MAKE A JAIL BEING WE HAD ONE MANY YEARS AGO. WE NEED IT.THE MAYOR GOES NOT OWN THIS TOWN. PUT IT ON THE BALLOT AND VOTE FOR IT. LET THE VOTE. WE WANT SAFER PLACE TO LIVE.

This email in concerning the Ponchatoula Councilman convicted of rape Robert Elzy district D
Did you knwo Councilman Virgil Sanderfer and Dave Higgenbotham were the deciding votes to make Councilman Robert Elzy Mayor Protempt. Elzy voted for himself and then Higgenbotham voted for him and then Councilman Virgil Sanderfer was the deciding vote. All this happened with full knowledge of his pending charges.

I don't think the thinking of guilty until proven other wise was their motivation. Their motivation was the heartless agenda they were pushing against the poor of Ponchatoula. They need Elzy on board to pull it off. His charges didn't matter to them. I'd be willing to bet that they were some of the main people praying that he was found not guilty so they could continue their attack on the poor.

The concerned citizens have een trying to recall Councilman Elzy and Councilman Higgenbotham For three months now.The city owes these citizens a big thanks for getting the process started months ago. But the Mayor (Zabbia) the building inspector Ronnie Perrin, and the city attorney has been in full support of Councilman Elzy because Elzy was a key figure in the their plot to force poor people from being able to live on their own property in the city limits in a mobile home. Together they pushed laws that state that. Mobile Homes are Banned From the City Limits of Ponchatoula. they have no concern at all for regular tax payers who may not at this time be able to build a 300,000.00 home. With the laws they pushed it would rid the city of ponchatoula of any one who couldn't live up to the standards of housing as those who have been financially blessed. Below is an explanation of what they pushed on the most vunerable of our citizens.

To All Concerned Citizens:
The city officials of Ponchatoula are saying that an ordinance was passed in 2004, that all of the city officials are claiming they just found out about, it was there in Feb, 2009. They are all conviently playing dumb on knowing about this heartless new law. It basically says that.
1. No Mobil Homes are allowed in the city limits on private property ever again.
2. The only place a Mobile Home can come in the city is to a mobile park.
3. All of the Mobile Homes that are in the city on private property already can stay but in the case of a fire or storm, they cannot be replaced on private property. You can only replace them by putting your replacement home in a trailer park. You can not even upgrade to a new mobile home on private property.
4. It also says that if you're putting a Mobile Home in a Mobile Home park in the city limits it can't be over 5 years old.
The recall is of even more importance now because Elzy's seat can't begin to be replaced until all his apeals are over which would be at least a year. Or until he formerly resignes, and it's ovious that he doesn't have the character to do something as up standing as that. So if we hadn't started this recall over three months ago we would not be in the position we're in right now, being able to heve in on the ballot Now 14. Had these citizens not started the recall before every one else decided he as bad for the city, we would be voting just t recall him sometime in March or April of next year. Mayor Zabbia was so opposed to this recall before the guilty verdit. He continues to delay Elzy'd distric from having represenation by encouraging the council to appoint the Chairman of the recall petition on Elzy. Mrs Vera Hally.
Please tell the Mayor to stop stalling, stop this heartless fight against the poorest people of our city. I voted and supported the mayor, I'm so disapointed whith him.

We as city officials should never approve anything that brings harm or unnecessary hard ship to the people we signed on to serve. We all would do well to put our selves in the position of these people we’re making decisions about. Remember the bible’s golden rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. How would you want this decided if you were the one on the bottom earning minimum wages? If you were the one living on less than $800.00 per month? If you were the one in that position and these decisions were going to affect your children’s lives dramatically? What would you decide then? These people already face the horrible possibility of devastating hurricanes and tornadoes every year, and the current economy. And on top of that, their city officials want them to have to worry about not being able to afford to live on their own property should the next storm affect them. Is there anybody in the city government that fears God? Is there any one who cares for the least among us? There’s has to be, because the people that I have came to know that serve in our city’s government are better than what this heartless ordinance portrays them to be.

Martin Luther King Jr. said we should not judge people by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I say we should also not judge people by the house or neighborhood they live in, but by the content of their character. We can’t get so caught up into property value until we diminish human value. People make an area a neighborhood not property. These are people we’re talking about. They are families; these are many of the kids in the biddy ball programs. These are the people who cook for you at the fast food restaurants; these are the bus drivers that drive our most precious cargo. These are the people on the pew right next to you in your church. These are custodians, cafeteria workers, fireman; policeman; military solders; preachers, and pastors, and yes even a zoning member.

When I was asked to serve as a zoning member I was living in a Mobile Home. When I was asked to serve on the advisory committee for the remodeling of the old Ponchatoula High School I was living in a Mobile Home. When I was elected to pastor one of the oldest African American churches in Ponchatoula, the New Zion Baptist Church I was living in a Mobile Home. When I was asked by the Tangipahoa Parish School System to drive a school bus, I was living in a Mobile Home. When I was teaching a bible study class at Amite parish jail every Thursday night, I was living in a Mobile Home. When did people in Mobile Homes become so much less than the rest of the citizens of Ponchatoula? What makes this city beautiful is all of us not just the affluent of us. After hurricane Katrina cities all over the southeast were struggling because the poor were dispersed and there was no one to do any of the minimum wage jobs. The poor play a vital role in any economy. The wealthy are not better than the poor and the poor are not less than the wealthy. We are all equally human; equally American, equally citizens, and we should all be equally represented.

Those of us, who have been blessed, let us not put our weight on the backs of the least among us. Instead of weighing them down, don’t you think the godly thing would be to help them up? We who are up, or moving up in this world, let us not forget that many of us were on the bottom yesterday. Many of us, didn’t always have the many blessings that we enjoy right now. We didn’t always have the power to control other’s lives like we have right now. Aren’t you glad that those who were in power when we were down, did not try to harm us? Aren’t you glad that they didn’t do to you what this ordnance has done to so many? There are poor people among us. Jesus said,(Remember the poor for they will always be among us). Let us not forget that all of us will stand before Almighty God one day, and give an account of ourselves, the rich and the poor. Has anybody ever wondered what God would think about this whole issue? Is there going to be an affluent neighborhood in heaven? Why don’t we tell all the people who live in trailers that they have to build them a trailer church? If we don’t want them to live by us, then surely we don’t want them to sit by us in our church services. Do you see how foolish this is? Wake up people, I know you’re better than that. Let us do right by all of our citizens, and especially the least among us. May Almighty God Bless this beautiful city of ours, all of ours. There’s a verse in the bible that say, “ How can you say that you love God whom you have never seen and hate your brother who you see everyday”. How can our city officials say they love God and pass laws that would deprive the poor of living within their means on their own property?

1 Jn 4:20-21 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

The Local news radio or TV station have not covered one story on this long ongoing fight to try to be a voice for the least among us. We're so thankful to the Ponchatoula Times for being true to unbiased reporting and covering this important issue. The out come of this for so many in Ponchatoula is going to decide whether or not they are allowed to live on their own property. If Americans don't help us fight for this then what is worth fighting for? Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
I live in a nice brick home now, I even own a few rental mobile homes. I'm in this fight because I grew up in the projects here in Ponchatoula. Little Flower Estates the one that HUD just told the people Friday that they have 60 days to move out of because they are no longer approved by them. When I moved out of the projects in the 80's it was because of having the right to purchase a mobile home, and place it on my own property. It was one of the happiest days of my life. I lived in that mobile home for over 17 years. I still own it today.

Louisiana suppose to be a majority republican state. Republican's are suppose to be against big government I tthought. Where is the out cry from those who are against big government when it comes to what this Mayor and City council have been trying to do to the poor of Ponchatoula with the aid of Robert Elzy. They wanted to mess over these poor people so bad until they didn't even care if the lead man was facing rape charges. Please tell the Mayor and the council to allow people to be able to live within their financial means. Remind them that all of us didn't start out with a silver spoon. The most of us had to crawl first before we were able to walk. many of us lived in a mobile home before we were able to purchase a house. But we were still honest hard working people. We were still tax payers, bitty ball coaches, fireman, policeman, school bus driver, health care workers. Americans uusually stand up for what's right, we usually get on the side of justice. Please join in the fight against these elitest laws lanched by our mayor and city council against the elderly, the poor and all common ordinary people of the city of Ponchatoula.
